My simple approach to pregnancy (as a 4th time mom)
My food, prenatal, supplementation, homebirth plans, and more.
When I found out I was pregnant this time around, I was genuinely shocked. I had longed for a fourth child since Rey (our third child) was born but Joey and I hadn’t yet aligned on the idea. For weeks I felt like it was “too good to be true.” I felt some guilt over having become pregnant with such ease and wondered if I could really be lucky enough to grow four healthy babies in this body of mine.
I held my breath until my one and only ultrasound at 20 weeks. We opted to do a full anatomy scan but we did not find out the gender. Because I’m planning another homebirth (more on that later), I wanted eyes on the baby just once during this pregnancy. I know several people who opt out of all ultrasounds but since we’ve been hit with a shocking diagnosis in the past, I wanted the assurance that baby was healthy.
As I write this, I am currently 27 weeks pregnant. I’m nearing my third trimester and I’m feeling pretty good overall. My main complaint throughout this pregnancy has been some severe sciatica but that appears to have lessened over the past week. I was shocked when I didn’t experience the same violent morning sickness and extreme weight loss that I did with my first three. This leads my to believe, perhaps, we’re having a boy. Or, something about my daily health habits over the last four years has allowed this pregnancy to go a little smoother. Either way, I’m thankful.
My approach to this pregnancy has been very simplistic. My goal is to nourish my body well with real food and whole food supplementation, regulate my nervous system, and stay active. Here’s what I’ve implemented so far:
